Whether you're a music fan or not, you'll be one sure enough when you leave, after exploring Austin. The capital city of Texas is known as the 'Live Music Capital of the World' and it won't disappoint. This town has more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the U.S. Residents take this title very seriously and you'll find the creative juices are flowing in every direction in Austin. There is an abundance of quality Austin boutique hotels and chances are no matter which one you choose; there will be live music within earshot.

There are several annual music festivals that take the music scene to a whole new level. The ACL Music Festival is a three-day extravaganza that features over 130 bands playing on eight stages at Zilker Park. South by Southwest (SXSW) is an annual event that showcases not only incredible music, but also indie film and interactive art as well. Other music festivals you might want to hit the town for include the Latin-themed Pachanga Festival and the Urban Music Fest.

If you haven't gotten your fill of live music at the festivals and clubs, then make a trip to one of the music sites around town. These include the Austin Music Memorial, Texas Music Museum and the Collings Guitar Factory. Find live music at restaurants and even grocery stores around town. Plainly put, you could stay here for a year and not see the same band play twice.

Austin is a Texas town through and through. Learn about this great state's history at its capitol in downtown. Free guided tours of the granite statehouse are offered daily. The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum offers interactive, permanent and temporary exhibits as well as an IMAX theater. Reserve a spot on a historic walking tour if you'd rather learn about Austin's vibrant story on foot and remember that you'll probably hear some music as you make your way around. The visitor center located downtown is a great resource for tours and information.

Families have much to do in this city. The Zilker Botanical Gardens provide a gorgeous backdrop for residents and visitors alike. Stroll through 30 acres of themed gardens that are interconnected with streams and koi ponds. Every year, over 400,000 people visit the gardens. The gardens are free to the public and open daily, year round. The Botanical Gardens are part of the larger Zilker Metropolitan Park, a haven for outdoor family fun. The park features numerous playgrounds, open fields, hiking trails, picnic areas, a children's train and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum.

Another great outdoor spot in Austin is Lady Bird Lake. Ten miles of trails border the lake and they are favorite stomping grounds for local hikers, runners and cyclists. Many Austin boutique hotels are within walking distance of the lake. Central Texas boasts more than 300 days of sunshine every year, which means there are plenty of perfect weather days to hit the links. Austin is one of the nation's top destinations for golf. There are courses designed by big name designers like Tom Fazio and Robert Trent Jones. In addition, there are smaller, more affordable courses for golfers who are looking to brush up on their skills in lower profile locations. Whether you want to play near one of the Austin boutique hotels or drive out of town to a destination resort, there are many golf courses that will meet your needs.

Once you've had your fill of activity and culture, it will be time to eat. The culinary scene here is quite distinct, ranging from Texas barbecue to ethnic favorites to fine dining cuisine. Finish the evening by gazing at the stars from one of the city's many rooftop bars downtown. When you're ready to find an eclectic souvenir, head to one of several boutiques on South Congress. Buy a locally made piece of art or a vintage ensemble here. Make it a nighttime activity on the first Thursday of the month when all the stores stay open until 10 pm.

Another slogan you'll see around town is "Keep Austin Weird". This town is proud of its music and culture and most of all, its utter individuality. There's no place quite like it and that's exactly how the people like it.
